The University Grants Commission (UGC) has launched a scheme on skill development based higher education as part of college/university education, leading to Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) Degree with multiple exits such as Certificate/Diploma/Advanced Diploma under the NSQF(National skill Qualifications framework). The B.Voc programme is focused on universities and colleges providing undergraduate studies which would also incorporate specific job roles along with broad based general education. This would enable the graduates completing B.Voc to make a meaningful participation in accelerating India’s economy by gaining appropriate employment, becoming
entrepreneurs and creating appropriate knowledge.

With the grant from the UGC, MES College Marampally started the Department of Vocational studies in 2014 with two B.Voc degrees. Following the success of these two courses, the UGC granted 3 more vocational courses in 2018. Thus the Department of Software Development and System Administration came into existence in November 2018.
The department offers a 3-year B.Voc degree programme in Software Development and System Administration, 2-year Advanced Diploma programme in Software Development and System Administration and 1-year Diploma programme in Software Development and System Administration. The Sector Skill Council is IT-ITes NASSCOM. Other Certificate Programmes & Add on Courses like NPTEL, Coursera, Spoken Tutorial etc are also done by the students. Adhering to the concept of B.Voc degree as conceived by the UGC, the department strives to equip students to fill the skill gap in the IT Industry.

Our programme offers different job roles for each year. The First-Year aim to develop Web Designers. The Second-year aim to develop Web Application Developers. Third-Year aim to develop Mobile Application Developers. Apart from skill development, the department also caters to the holistic development of students. Various curricular, co-curricular, technical extension, social extension and eco-friendly activities are also carried out by the department.
Department has well qualified and vibrant faculty dedicated for the betterment of the students. The department maintains a well-equipped computer lab with 25 computers with latest computer softwares in addition to the spacious classrooms for conducting the Activity Oriented Courses (AOC). The Laboratories are installed with broad-band internet facility. The annual intake of the department is 50 students. The department ensures that program objectives are constantly met and learning outcomes are monitored through periodical tests and assignments. Every year the department organizes National, State-Level, College Level Conferences/Seminars/Workshops/ Activities. The department encourages students to get funded projects. The department offers various consultancy service to the public.
